The cracks in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have deepened, forestalling the consensus to hold the party’s national convention on February 26. The APC Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) led by Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State was compelled to postpone the convention to March. The APC governors will be meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday to decide a specific date for the convention in March.
Five days to the February 26 scheduled national convention, relevant committees were not constituted by the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), forms were not sold for the respective offices of the National Working Committee (NWC) contested for election at the national convention.

APC governors were divided over candidates for the APC national chairman. Governors of Kebbi and Jigawa states were alleged to be pushing for Senator Mohammed Sani for the APC national chairman, some others identified with former Governor Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa State.
Essentially, the President has not been forthcoming in providing leadership for the party, thus, various political forces attempt to impose their political interests on the APC.
