The crack in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has continued to deepen, essentially, in some states, while reconciliation of the crisis at the national level is yet to produce remarkable output. The lingering crisis in Imo State PDP is tearing the party leadership apart, leading to covert declaration of loss of confidence on the PDP governorship candidate in the state for the November 11 governorship election.
Accordingly, 7 PDP State Working Committee members in Imo, on Sunday declared that “the party’s candidate for the November 11, 2023 governorship election, Samuel Anyanwu, does not have what it takes to govern the state.”
The protesting 7 SWC members in a statement, expressed concerns that Senator Anyanwu he has been deploying the powers of his office to fight members of the Working Committee, and intimidating members since he became PDP National Secretary. The protesting SWC members, accordingly, resigned their membership of the PDP.
The SWC members agitated that Senator Anyanwu, “unilaterally chose his deputy for the governorship election without consulting party members”.
The State Publicity Secretary, Collins Opurozor, in a media interaction at the PDP State Secretariat in Owerri, emphasised that the National Secretary has been attacking some of the State Executive members with violence.
Meanwhile, the protesting SWC members, seemingly constituting PDP G7 in Imo State, while announcing their resignation from the State party, stated that their “next line of action would be made public soon”.
