Area Commander, Lion Building, Lagos State Police Command, Mr Joseph Akinyede has warned students of Boys’ Senior Academy, Simpson Street, Lagos Island to eschew criminal acts capable of
Mortgaging their future, charging them to be good ambassadors of the country.

Akinyede gave the warning at a seminar theme: “Inculcating Security Awareness and Discouraging Criminality Tendencies”, organised by the managing editor, Tomorrow’s Leaders’ Digest, Mr Andy Evbuomwan.

Akinyede, who represented the state police commissioner, Mr Fatai Owoseni, also gave the students lessons on security tips that could be helpful to forestall any act of security threat.

The police boss explained that, as tomorrow’s leaders, the students must imbibe the right attitude such as submitting themselves to the dictates of the school, teachers, parents and other constituted authorities in order to make the country proud.

He stressed that they should set their priorities right, and not to be in a haste to seek riches, as this would lead them to illegal activities which might cut short their lives or have them slammed in jail.

Speaking on security tips, Akinyede hinted that the students must take keen observation of strange people or thing for any suspicious movement, adding that such individual or object should be reported to the school authority.

He also charged them to be weary of identifying with an old friend whom they have long seen, as they would not know what such a person is into, in order not to be initiated into criminal activities.

In his remark, the convener, Mr Andy Evbuomwan, said the programme would be replicated in other schools across the state in a bid to inculcating the right values in the students.

“It is a conscious effort that will positively change the mindset of the soon-to-graduate students for their good and for the good of the society. Together, we can curtail crime in this City of Excellence by working to address it from the grassroots.

“We will not abdicate the responsibility to lead these feeble, innocent yet naïve Nigerian children in this complex society to be stolen for rituals, never allow wicked forces to destroy their future. We need to teach them to beware of friends as well as strangers, never to trust anyone on surface value.”
