The Forum of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in Plateau has called on Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda, the incoming Minister of Human Affairs and Poverty Reduction, to reject all forms of corruption when he assumes office. Rev. Christopher Damcher, Chairman of the forum, made the statement on Wednesday in Jos.

This call follows President Bola Tinubu’s nomination of Yilwatda for the ministerial position, although he is still awaiting Senate confirmation to officially take on his responsibilities.

In his message, Damcher congratulated Yilwatda on his nomination and urged him to act with integrity and diligence in his new role.

He emphasized the importance of using his office to alleviate the suffering of displaced persons throughout Plateau, many of whom have been affected by ongoing community attacks.

“As a forum representing Civil Society Organisations across various sectors in Plateau, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda on his nomination as minister of humanitarian affairs and poverty reduction.

This appointment brings hope for the citizens of Plateau, especially those impacted by displacement,” Damcher stated.

He acknowledged the ministry’s previous struggles with corruption allegations and expressed confidence that Yilwatda’s history of diligence and integrity would help overcome these challenges.

The forum urged him to navigate his leadership wisely, avoiding the potential pitfalls of corruption and blackmail.

Damcher also expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for appointing a Plateau native to such a critical ministry, recognizing the numerous humanitarian challenges the region faces.

He pointed out that efforts in the field have often been hindered by inadequate funding and lack of governmental support, particularly affecting vulnerable populations like women and children.
