The Anambra police command has arrested suspected cultists who killed two policemen and carted away their rifles in December 2021 in Awka.
A press release by the spokesperson of the state police command, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga said the cultists launched an attack on UNIZIK Vigilante operatives.
The hoodlums who attacked the vigilante operatives had been overpowered and arrested, while their leader was burnt alive.
A source said the vigilante operatives later handed over the arrested suspects to the police.
Ikenga in his press release said, “On 26th February 2022, the same cult group attacked a funeral ceremony at Ebenebe in Awka North LGA killing several mourners.
“On Tuesday 15th March 2022 police succeeded in recovering a cache of weapons which included the two AK-47 rifles earlier stolen from the two Policemen murdered on 14th December 2021.”
Police said it also recovered other weapons, including three pump action guns, three locally made beretta pistols, one locally made chief recover pistol, nine Ak-47 magazines, two battle axes, assorted ammunition for the firearms above and a Mercedes Benz V-Booth, with registration number: Lagos HC 661 AAA.
“The leader of the gang, one Uchenna Nwobu a.k.a Anali was killed while the other gang member was arrested,” he said.
