Dangerous fighting breaks out in Sudan

Dangerous fighting broke out on Saturday in Sudan between the Sudan Army and the Paramilitary Rapid Support Forces in Khartoum and the city of Merowe.
Sudan Army said they were defending themselves against attacks from the Rapid Support Forces. Roads leading to the Presidential Palace in Khartoum were blocked by military Tanks on Saturday.
Sudan General Intelligence Service said that the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces is a rebel group.
The Rapid Support Forces said that its base was attacked in Sogba , Southern Khartoum.
Sudan Army said the country’s Air Force was conducting air operations against the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Khartoum.
Armed men occupied the runway of the airport in Khartoum, compelling sudden cancellation of flights.
There were explosions and exchange of gunfire at different locations of confrontation between the Sudan Army and the RSF in Khartoum.
SRF took control of Sudan Television Service, Sudan TV, as at the evening of Saturday.
About 27 people were said to be killed while 170 were identified injured in the confrontations.
The U.S. Ambassador to Sudan, on Saturday, called for immediate end to “Dangerous” fighting between the Sudan Army and RSF.
US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, also called for immediate cessation of hostilities, pointing out “the importance of stopping the military escalation”.
Also, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres ordered “an immediate cessation of hostilities”. He urged leaders of the two armed forces Burhan and Daglo, “to return to dialogue.”
Egypt and Saudi Arabia also requested The Arab League to convene an urgent meeting Sunday to deliberate on the situation in Sudan.
