Defence Hqrs reveals Troops rescue Chibok girl, kill 47 boko haram terrorists

The Nigerian Defence Headquarters on Thursday revealed that Troops of Operation of Hadin Kai have in the last two weeks rescued one of the Chibok Government Science Secondary School girls kidnapped in 2014 by Boko Haram terrorists, as well as killing about 47 terrorists.

The Director of Information at the Defence Headquarters,  Major-General Bernard Onyeuko, at the bi-weekly briefing in Abuja  on Thursday, identified the rescued Chibok school girl as Mary Dauda.

General Onyeuko narrated that the troops on June 12, confronted the terrorists during operation clear terrorists’ camps in Gazuwa, Bama Local Government Area, Borno State.

He said that the camp, called Markas or Headquarters, was resided by a large number of the terrorists and their families.

According to General Onyeuko, not less than 47 terrorists were neutralised by the security operatives, including their top commanders after a fierce battle with the troops.

General Onyeuko said that troops of 26 Task Force Brigade on clearance operation at Ngoshe intercepted Miss Dauda, 27, on the 14th of June, with her child. He said that Miss Dauda, on serial 46 on the Chibok girls list of 2014, was suspected to have escaped from Gara in Gwoza Local Government Area, Borno State.

General Onyeuko said that the rescued Miss Dauda and child are currently in military custody, receiving needed medical attention and rehabilitation.

General Onyeuko also disclosed that troops on the 6th of June 2022, rescued 5 kidnapped victims by the terrorists.

He said that this was achieved in conjunction with Air Component of military who engaged the terrorists with helicopter gunship. Some of the criminals, he said,  were neutralized and 3 gun trucks abandoned by the terrorists were recovered.

General Onyeuko disclosed that cumulatively, 57,004 of Boko Haram Terrorists and their families have surrendered, comprising of 12,547 males, 17,027 females and 27,430 children.

He added that all the surrendered individuals and items recovered from them have been handed over to the appropriate authorities for further action. The Boko Haram terrorists had earlier, burnt 2 petrol tankers and 2 other vehicles, before the confrontation with the military.
