Delta State House of Assembly on Tuesday passed a bill Prohibiting Open Grazing, indiscriminate Breeding, Rearing and Marketing of Livestock in the state, the Anti-Open grazing bill.
The House Majority Leader, Ferguson Onwo, had moved a motion for the passage of the bill which was subsequently adopted at the resumed plenary in Tuesday, presided by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Sherrif Oborevwori.
The Chairman, House Committee on Special Bills, Pat Ajudua, presented the report on the bill on the floor of the House at the Tuesday plenary, which the lawmakers received and adopted.
The Bill as enacted by the House would be transmitted to the governor for assent into law. The law seeks to prohibit the carrying of firearms, either licensed or otherwise, by residence or individuals in the state, including restriction of arbitrary rearing and movements of livestock in the state.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, noted that Delta indigenes and other residents of the state would be happy that the bill was passed by the state legislature.
Several other states in the south have since passed the anti-grazing bill after the Asaba Declaration by Southern Governors in August. Some of the states include Rivers, Lagos, Ondo, Osun, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, etc.
