The immediate past Deputy Governor of Delta State, His Excellency Deacon Kingsley Burutu Otuaro, has applauded the Nigerian Senate for its pivotal role in passing the bill for the establishment of the Federal Oil and Gas Hospital in Benikrukru, located in the Gbaramatu Kingdom of Warri South-West Local Government Area, Delta State.

In a letter of appreciation addressed to the President of the Senate, His Excellency Senator (Dr.) Godswill Obot Akpabio, on Wednesday, Otuaro described the passage of the bill at its third reading as a “historic legislative achievement” and a “major step toward correcting years of healthcare neglect” in the Niger Delta.

Otuaro emphasized the strategic importance of Benikrukru, noting its status as a host to numerous oil and gas facilities.

He stressed the critical need for a specialized medical institution to cater to the unique health and environmental challenges prevalent in the region.

In his letter, Otuaro stated, “This historic milestone is not just a legislative victory—it is a major step toward correcting years of healthcare neglect in one of the most critical regions to our national economy.”

He highlighted that the Benikrukru axis, situated in the heart of the Niger Delta, is home to a dense concentration of oil installations and multinational oil and gas companies, whose operations are vital to Nigeria’s economic engine.

The former Deputy Governor articulated that the Federal Oil and Gas Hospital, once fully established, will serve as a crucial response center for oil-related occupational hazards, emergencies, and environmental health challenges unique to oil-producing communities.

Beyond specialized care, it will also cater to the general well-being of the region’s hardworking populace, who, he noted, “for decades, have sacrificed their environment and livelihoods in the service of national prosperity.”

Otuaro further commended the Senate, under Senator Akpabio’s leadership, for demonstrating “unwavering commitment to equity, development, and national balance.”

He expressed deep encouragement by the support and unity shown by the Senate throughout the legislative process.

Looking ahead, Otuaro conveyed confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, renowned for his “unwavering commitment to justice, inclusiveness, and development.”

He expressed optimism that the President will promptly assent to the bill, recognizing the hospital’s strategic importance to the well-being of the people and the sustainability of Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.

Deacon Otuaro concluded his letter by reiterating his gratitude to Senator Akpabio and the entire Senate for their “statesmanship, compassion, and dedication to the progress of the Niger Delta and the nation at large.”
