Detained sacked Ogun Council chairman, Adedayo regains freedom

The former Chairman of Ijebu-East Local Government, Wale Adedayo, has regained freedom, having spent 48 hours at the Ibara Correctional Centre in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

Adedayo was arraigned on Tuesday by the police over a petition submitted by the Ogun State Government, wherein Adedayo was accused of lying that Governor Dapo Abiodun was diverting council funds.

Adedayo was said to have defamed and ridiculed Governor Abiodun in the letter he wrote to former Governor Olusegun Osoba and circulated to the media with his claim that the 20 local government chairmen were denied access to their statutory allocations.

On Tuesday, Adedayo appeared before Magistrate Adejoke Araba of Magistrate’s Court 2, Isabo, Abeokuta, on a two-count charge, bothering on false accusation and conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace.

In the suit marked MA/429C/2023, Adedayo pleaded not guilty.

He was thereafter granted bail in the sum of N2 million with two sureties in like sum.

The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must possess landed property within the jurisdiction of the court.

However, due to the delay in perfecting his bail conditions on Tuesday, Adedayo was remanded at the Ibara Correctional Centre.

He could not be released on Wednesday because of the public holiday declared by the Federal Government to celebrate Eid-el-Maulud.

Announcing his freedom on Thursday, he said he had promised to stand by the truth, even if it is bitter.

“Olodumare is faithful. He has never failed. And He will never fail. Despite the scheming, despite the deliberate efforts, Omo Olofin Ogbolu is out. We’ll not relent. We’ll not step back. “Awa ti se ileri f’Olorun awa wipe a o se otito o, bi o ti le koro!” he posted on his Facebook page.

He will appear in court again on October 20, 2023.
