The Director-General of The Progressives Governors Forum, Salihu Lukman, on Monday commended the leaders and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for coordinating the preparation processes to the National Convention of the party in Abuja for the election of members of the National Working Committee (NWC). The DG also noted the PDP campaign for a better Nigeria, though he did not agree with certain statements.
The DG of the APC Governors Forum, in a statement in Abuja, captioned: “Opposition Politics and Campaign for New Nigeria”, enjoined the new PDP executive members to build on the new atmosphere to start a new beginning for the party which should be based on honesty, respect for one another, including understanding that “politics is all about negotiations and agreements.”
Salihu Lukman acknowledged that the PDP National Convention which was held on Saturday, October 30 and Sunday October 31 was successful because of the negotiations to produce leaders, noting that it was a deviation from the past when the PDP was the ruling party.
The DG of the APC Governors Forum, however, disagreed with most of the statements at the national convention by PDP leaders; saying that the statements showed lack of commitment by the PDP to take responsibility for the socio-economic crises in Nigeria.
The APC Governors Forum DG berated the PDP for failing to tell Nigerians its new agenda. He emphasised that “the PDP is still lost in the belief that the problem of the country is a creation of the All Progressives Congress.”
Salihu Lukman counseled the ruling APC to take a cue from the PDP convention; telling APC leaders “to use the forthcoming National Convention to demonstrate its commitment to change Nigeria.”
The APC Governors Forum DG urged the ruling party leaders to consider the amendment of APC manifesto to accommodate the country’s challenges.
