The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Edo Command, has deployed 1,350 personnel to various parts of the state to provide adequate security and ensure a hitch-free Easter celebration.
The state Commandant, Gbenga Agun, at a press conference on Thursday in Benin, expressed that the deployment is aimed at providing maximum security at places of worship, recreational centres and other critical infrastructure during the festive period.
The NSCDC boss said that the command had strengthened its intelligence network across the state to detect and thwart any potential security threats ahead of, during and after the celebration.
“We have expanded our intelligence capacity and directed all area commanders, divisional officers and heads of tactical units to ensure a crime-free and peaceful Easter celebration,” he said.
Agun reaffirmed the commitment of the corps to protect lives and property of Edo residents, adding that public safety remained its top priority.
He appealed to members of the public to cooperate with security personnel and share credible information that could help in combating criminal activities.
“As we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, we urge residents to allow peace to reign and support the state government in its developmental efforts,” he said.
While wishing all Christians, a peaceful and joyful Easter celebration, the commandant expressed hope that the season would bring lasting peace to Edo and Nigeria as a whole.
The Federal Government declared Friday and Monday public holiday to celebrate Easter.
