Ebonyi NUJ correspondents’ chapel partners with police to combat crime

The collaboration was discussed during a courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Police, Mrs. Anthonia Uche-Anya, who emphasized the critical role of journalists in ensuring security while condemning police brutality.

The Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ebonyi council, has announced a partnership with the Nigeria Police Force in the fight against crime in the state.

The move was discussed during a courtesy visit by the chapel members to the Commissioner of Police in Ebonyi, Mrs. Anthonia Uche-Anya, on Thursday in Abakaliki.

During the visit, Uche-Anya emphasized the crucial role journalists play in combating insecurity, describing them as “critical stakeholders.”

The Commissioner of Police reassured the chapel of the command’s ongoing collaboration with media professionals to ensure Ebonyi remains safe from security threats.

She reaffirmed her commitment to maintaining law and order, stressing that the security of lives and property would remain her top priority.

“When I assumed office here in Ebonyi, I assured the people that my business remains the maintenance of law and order as well as improving the security of lives and property,” Uche-Anya said.

Addressing concerns over police brutality, Uche-Anya condemned the act, emphasizing that no police officer has the right to engage in unwarranted violence.

She assured that the officers under her command are dedicated to protecting the public, particularly media practitioners.

Earlier, Uchenna Inya, Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel, expressed that the visit aimed to strengthen the relationship between the police and media in crime prevention efforts.

Inya also commended the Ebonyi Police Command for its efforts in stabilizing the state’s security situation, assuring the police of their full support in fighting crime through responsible reporting.

“We are here to assure you of our support in the fight against crime and criminality in our dear state through our reportage as watchdogs of the society,” Inya added.
