The National Judicial Council held an emergency meeting today (Monday) to consider the responses of former chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen and the acting CJN, Tanko Muhammad, to the three petitions written against them.
The NJC set up a Preliminary Complaints Assessment Committee in accordance with Regulation 17 of the National Judicial Council Judicial Discipline Regulations, 2017, to do its findings and report to the Council on Wednesday 13th of February 2019.
The Council also received a new petition written by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission against Justice Walter Onnoghen, and forwarded it to him for his response within seven (7) working days.
Justice Onnoghen who was served a six-count charge of false assets declaration by the code of conduct tribunal has since been replaced by acting CJN Justice Muhammad.
Members affirmed their confidence in Justice Umaru Abdullahi, and are willing to continue under his Interim Chairmanship.
The Council will reconvene on Wednesday, 13th February, 2019.
