The Ijan-Ekiti community in Gbonyin Local Government Area of Ekiti State on Tuesday announced restriction of vehicular movement within the community between noon and 12.45 pm on Thursday Sept. 23.

The community made the announcement in a statement jointly signed by Chief J. O. Dada, the Olufon of Ijan-Ekiti, Chief S.O Kehinde, the Oshodi of Ijan-Ekiti and Chief M.O Fabamise, the Oniyare of Ijan-Ekiti on behalf of Ijan-Ekiti-In-Council.

According to the statement, the restriction is to enable the conclusion of burial rites of the traditional ruler of the community, Oba Samuel Fadahunsi, who joined his ancestors on Sept. 17 having ruled since Sept. 22, 2002.

The statement said the restriction and burial rites were in fulfilment of the customs and traditions of the people of Ijan-Ekiti.

It regretted any inconvenience the restriction might cause to the general public, especially to road users.

Oba Fadahunsi got his staff of office in April 2003.

He succeeded Oba Adeyemo Obarinde who passed on in February 2000, after 48 years on the throne.

Following the passage of Oba Fadahunsi, traditional rites began immediately in the community.

Trees in the quarters of Oba Fadahunsi have been cut symbolically indicating the passage of the Oba.
