The ambassador of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Libya on Thursday expressed the bloc’s support for the upcoming elections in the African country.
Jose Antonio Sabadell voiced the support during a meeting with Emad Al-Sayeh, Chairman of the Libyan Higher National Commission of Elections.
The meeting “covered developments of the elections according to the current political data, as well as the level of readiness of the commission, especially following the voter registration process, and the most important preparations for the next stage,” said a statement issued by the commission.
Sabadell praised “the commission’s efforts for voter registration, which contributes to holding the elections on time,” the statement added.
The ambassador expressed his delegation’s readiness to cooperate with the commission to organise successful elections.
The UN-sponsored Libyan Political Dialogue Forum in February selected a new executive authority of a unity government and a presidency council, whose main task is to prepare for the general elections to be held on Dec. 24 this year.
