Hon. Dr. Joseph Haruna Kigbu, a former member of the House of Representatives for the Lafia/Obi Federal Constituency, has been abducted by gunmen while traveling to Jos, the Plateau State capital.
The kidnapping occurred on Monday along the Nunku-Gwantu route, which spans Akwanga Local Government Area in Nasarawa State and Sanga Local Government Area in Kaduna State.
Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants fired multiple gunshots during the attack, killing Kigbu’s police orderly in a fierce gun battle.
“The kidnappers, in a violent exchange of gunfire, shot and killed the police escort attached to Joseph Kigbu as he tried to resist their advances,” a witness recounted.

Details of the attack remain sketchy, and the motive behind the kidnapping has yet to be confirmed.
As of the time of reporting, the police have not issued an official statement on the incident, nor have they disclosed efforts to locate and rescue the abducted former lawmaker.
Kigbu, a prominent figure in Nasarawa State politics, served in the National Assembly and is well-known for his contributions to community development in the region.
This latest incident adds to the growing concerns over insecurity and the rising wave of kidnappings along major routes in central Nigeria, prompting calls for intensified measures to protect citizens and curb violent crime.
