Ekiti Governor Kayode Fayemi has urged local hunters and vigilantes to use their powers to fight off banditry in their localities.

The chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum stated this Saturday in Birnin-Kebbi.

“Hunters and people of the state should use all power within their possession to end bandits attack” Fayemi said.

Fayemi is a scholar with a Ph.D in war studies, urging hunters to use juju and crude weapons to fight bandist arned with AK-47, RPGs, and other assault weapons.

He equally encouraged other governors to take responsibility for securing their states.

“Because, our first job as the governors is the security and welfare of our people. And God Almighty will be with us to realise the objective of protecting our people in sha Allahu,” he said.

He commended the state Gov. Atiku Bagudu who has decided to participate in the rescue operation of the students bandits kidnapped in the state on Thursday.

“That is the demonstration of his commitment to the welfare of his people. We know, we would overcome these challenges. There are lessons from it, for our own states too where we have federal government colleges and we have ordinary schools belonging to the state,” Fayemi said.

The two APC governors seem in agreement with what President Muhammadu Buhari said days ago—that governors, as the chief security officers of their states, should defend their states, and stop waiting for Abuja.

Rivers Gov Nyesom Wike has however disagreed with Buhari, saying it’s the president’s constitutional responsibility to secure Nigeria.
