Former Ekiti State governor Kayode Fayemi has denied claims by former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi that they jointly founded the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition before it expanded to include other political figures.

In a press statement issued on Sunday by Ahmad Sajoh, head of Fayemi’s media office, the former governor described the assertion as baseless, stressing that there is no credible evidence — video, audio, or reputable media report — to support Amaechi’s remarks.

The denial comes after Amaechi, during a Spaces conversation on X on Saturday, recounted how the coalition allegedly began at the Abuja home of businessman Nasiru Danu, in the presence of Salihu Mohammed (former APC national vice-chairman, North-West) and others.

Amaechi claimed the initial meeting was intended to reconcile himself with Fayemi, after which both men agreed to broaden the discussion to include more political stakeholders such as Aminu Tambuwal, former Sokoto State governor and current senator.

According to Amaechi, a committee led by ex-Cross River governor Liyel Imoke was later mandated to identify a suitable party platform, eventually settling on the ADC after talks with other parties, including the Action Alliance (AA) and Accord.

Sajoh, speaking for Fayemi, rejected the narrative outright, warning the public against relying on unverified social media claims, which he said are often manipulated for political or personal gain.

“We unequivocally state that these claims lack any basis. Dr. Fayemi remains a committed member and leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State,” the statement read.

Sajoh emphasised that Fayemi has consistently reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC, actively supporting Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s re-election bid, and engaging in initiatives to strengthen the ruling party both in Ekiti and at the national level.

The statement also highlighted that while Fayemi frequently participates in national conversations with politicians across party lines on issues relating to democracy and governance, such engagements do not amount to party defection.

“If he were to leave the APC, he would make it public and not require a third party to do so,” Sajoh added.

The former governor’s rebuttal underscores his continued alignment with the APC ahead of the forthcoming Ekiti gubernatorial election, and distances him from any formal association with the ADC coalition as described by Amaechi.
