The Federal Government has issued a notice to all owners of properties that hold titles across the country, giving them a strict deadline of 60 days to settle any unpaid ground rents and other required statutory charges. If these payments are not made on time, the property owners will risk losing their Certificates of Occupancy, commonly referred to as C of O.
This important announcement was made by the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Musa Dangiwa. He shared this information on Wednesday during the 29th Conference of Directors of Lands, which took place in Abuja. This conference featured a relevant theme titled “Equitable Land Stewardship: Challenges of Land Administration and Its Impact on Climate and Community Rights.” It brought together a variety of key stakeholders, including representatives from various federal and state government agencies.

During his address, Dangiwa highlighted a serious issue that has arisen: a considerable number of property owners have failed to make the necessary payments. As a result, this has led to the loss of trillions of naira in revenue for the government. Dangiwa emphasized that the Ministry, under the leadership of the current administration, can no longer overlook instances of non-compliance. He pointed out that these funds are essential and play a vital role in supporting national development initiatives.
