The Nigerian federal government has unveiled a new website aimed at facilitating the conversion of petrol-powered vehicles to compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles, offering users the option to pay for the conversion later.
The initiative was announced by the National Orientation Agency (NOA) on its X handle, highlighting the growing accessibility of CNG as an alternative fuel source.
The NOA stated, “Switching to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) is now more accessible than ever. With flexible payment plans tailored to fit your budget, transitioning from petrol to CNG has never been smoother or more affordable.”
These payment options enable vehicle owners to convert their vehicles immediately and settle the costs through manageable monthly installments at competitive rates.

The application process for this initiative is designed to be user-friendly, with quick approval mechanisms in place. Beneficiaries will receive guidance throughout the process to ensure a seamless experience. Interested individuals can start their conversion journey by visiting the dedicated website at gocng.ng.
CNG presents multiple advantages over traditional petrol, including cost savings, a lower environmental impact, enhanced engine longevity, and a reputation for safety and reliability. These benefits are particularly appealing as Nigeria seeks to reduce its carbon footprint and reliance on petrol.
Additionally, on October 7, the federal government launched a separate portal aimed at providing access to CNG-powered tricycles specifically for youths. This move is part of a broader strategy to encourage the adoption of cleaner energy sources in Nigeria’s transportation sector.
Michael Oluwagbemi, the project director and CEO of the Presidential CNG Initiative (P-CNGi), emphasized the program’s potential to improve the economic well-being of Nigerians.
He stated that the initiative is crucial for reducing the nation’s dependence on petrol, thereby promoting a more sustainable and economically viable transportation system.
