It is definitely an exciting moment at Old Trafford following the arrival of Mason Mount as Erik ten Hag finally completes his first signing of the summer, National Daily can confirm.
Ten Hag has been keen on strengthening his squad ahead of the next season after recovering from a terrible start of last season to finish third in the Premier League with a Champions League spot guaranteed, while also winning the EFL Cup to secure their first trophy since 2017.
Meanwhile, Mount, who joined Chelsea at the age of six had attracted interest from Arsenal and Liverpool as well as United as his contract at Stamford Bridge ran down.
Mount finally arrived Old Trafford in a £60m deal after United’s three unsuccessful bids
But Ten Hag was relieved as the Red Devils finally won the race to sign the talented England midfielder after agreeing to pay Chelsea £55m plus £5m in add-ons.
‘I am hugely ambitious,’ said England international Mount. ‘I know how amazing it feels to win major trophies and what it takes to do it.
‘I will be giving everything to experience that again at Manchester United.’
United confirmed the deal on Wednesday morning, posting a short video on Twitter of the 24-year-old pulling on the club’s new home kit alongside the caption: ‘The excitement is mounting.’
National Daily understands that Chelsea were reluctant to lose Mount, especially to a direct rival – but the Blues eventually decided to sell this summer to avoid the risk of losing the 24-year-old for nothing when his contract was due to expire in 12 months’ time.
Mount made 195 appearances for Chelsea had scored 33 goals while helping his boyhood club win the Champions League in 2021.
He has been capped 36 times by England and was part of Gareth Southgate’s squad for last year’s World Cup in Qatar.
Mount has been a subject of three unsuccessful bids from United before Chelsea finally agreed a deal worth £60m.
