However, the extent of damage could not be ascertained as the fire brigade from the Federal and State house, Marina and the police were combating the fire.

National Daily gathered that hoodlums were making rescue operation difficult. They had gathered at the foot of the skyscraper hindering the efforts of the fire service but with the intervention of the police provided enabling environment for the fire service men to battle the fire.

NITEL building is one of the tallest building in the area. After about two and half hours, the fire was put out in the night. There were no casualty recorded
in the incident.

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in the South-West Region, Ibrahim Farinloye, confirmed the fire outbreak but cautioned residents to be careful because of the harmattan haze.

Since the beginning of the year, several fire incidences have been recorded consuming several houses which included markets, shops, residential houses, offices and factories leading to several deaths and destruction of properties.
