The recent flooding across the country submerged over 8,000 farmlands and houses, displacing over 50,000 persons in 23 of the 25 local government councils in Niger State. the state also recorded 50 deaths in the flooding tragedy.
Several states were affected by flooding from the Niger Delta to the north central, north east, among others.
Some had attributed the flooding to release of excess water from Lagdo Dam in Cameroon, and others to rainfalls.
The Niger State Emergency Management Agency had disclosed that 50 persons died, 86 communities completely displaced and over 50,000 persons affected.
Mokwa local government council is the worst hit after the gates of the Kainji and Jebba dams were opened for water to flow downstream leading to the destruction of 886 farmlands and houses.
