Former Iranian President Reportedly Killed in US-Israeli Airstrikes on Tehran
The 69-year-old was reportedly killed at his home in northeast Tehran as a major military campaign targets Iran’s top security and military leaders.
Former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, 69, was reportedly killed in US-Israeli airstrikes on Tehran, according to several media outlets, including Iran’s state-linked ILNA news agency. However, there is no official confirmation yet.
The airstrike hit Ahmadinejad’s home in the Narmak district of northeast Tehran, killing him and several of his bodyguards. According to Israeli media outlet Ma’ariv, as reported by the New York Post, Ahmadinejad was under house arrest at the time.

This incident is part of a larger Israeli-US military campaign that reportedly also killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, ending his 36-year rule over Iran.
Other senior Iranian officials reportedly killed by the Israeli military include Defence Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh, IRGC Chief Mohammad Pakpour, Chief of Staff Abdolrahim Mousavi, Supreme Leader’s Security Adviser Ali Shamkhani, and several other top military and intelligence leaders.
Ahmadinejad was Iran’s president from 2005 to 2013. His nuclear policies led to tough international sanctions and an economic crisis. He often criticized Israel, and Iran became more isolated during his time in office. In 2023, the United States sanctioned him for allegedly being involved in the wrongful detention of American citizens.
Iran has declared 40 days of mourning and launched retaliatory attacks after the strikes. Iranian missiles hit the Israeli town of Beit Shemesh, killing at least nine people. Three US soldiers were also reported killed after Iranian attacks on a military base in Kuwait.
The situation is still unfolding, and more information is expected as this story develops.
