Fuel marketers demand Dangote Refinery reveal petrol prices amid boycott claims

Nigeria’s petroleum marketers are urging Dangote Refinery to publicly disclose the price of its Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) amid claims that local marketers are boycotting the refinery’s petrol for imported alternatives.

This request comes after Devakumar Edwin, Vice President of Dangote Industries Limited, suggested that local marketers were opting for imported petrol despite Dangote’s lower prices.

In separate interviews on Thursday, the President of the Products Retail Outlets Owners Association, Billy Gillis-Harry, and the President of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Abubakar Maigandi, expressed their concerns.

They emphasized that marketers are unaware of Dangote Refinery’s petrol pricing, which has hindered their ability to make informed purchasing decisions.

Gillis-Harry challenged the refinery to provide a clear price list, stating, “Why don’t Dangote Refinery give us a price list of what their price is? They claim their PMS is cheaper than imported petrol, but we don’t know the price.”

Similarly, Maigandi refuted Edwin’s claim of a boycott, explaining that marketers cannot buy petrol from Dangote Refinery without knowing the cost.

He reiterated that petroleum marketers are ready to purchase from the refinery as long as the price is competitive with current market rates.

This issue comes shortly after Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Group, announced the rollout of his petrol, stating that the price would be determined by the Federal Executive Council, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

As the situation unfolds, the demand for transparency in pricing has become a focal point for Nigeria’s petroleum marketers.
