The Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JED), has upgraded workers salaries aimed at supporting their welfare in the face of the hardship occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy by the President Tinubu administration.

“The hardship faced by Nigerians in the current regime of subsidy removal has in no doubt caused untold hardship on the masses”, our correspondent reports.

However to cushion the effect on its workers and also to checkmate the temptation of having its workforce turned thieves by vandalizing electricity installations or engaging in sharp practices, in other to make ends meet, the Managing Director (MD), Engr. Abdu Mohammed, acting on managerial wisdom, dimmed it fit to push up staff salaries, our correspondent gathered.

Mohammed stated this in Otukpo LGA of Benue State.

“The Managing Director disclosed that the salaries of staff have been increased by 15 to 20% with effect from July 2023”, a statement from the Head, Corporate Communications, Dr. Friday Adakole Elijah, said on Friday.

“The MD had also gotten the approval of the Board to embark on the promotion of deserving staff to serve as an elixir to hard work”, Elijah echoed

He continued: “The MD had also informed the staff that the management was making arrangements to provide staff with staff buses that would convey them to and from work in addition to the provision of foodstuff at a subsidized rate to cushion the effects of the petroleum subsidy removal by the Federal government.

Encouraging staff to be more dedicated to their work by improving the collection efficiency of the company, the MD pointed out to his workers that with the enhancement of salaries of staff, the company would no doubt be burdened with more financial responsibilities, the JED Spokesman said.

According to him: “Now that we have increased your salary and you are going to be promoted, you will need to redouble your efforts in revenue collection because that is the only way we can meet up with these additional responsibilities”.

“Shun all negative vices because the management has zero tolerance for corruption. If you are caught, you will not be spared. You should desist from diverting money meant for the company into your account. We will not hesitate to exit you from the company if you are caught”, he said.
