Report reaching National Daily reveals that the reign of Gareth Southgate as England national football team boss will remain until after Euro 2024, the Football Association has confirmed.

Though the 52-year-old’s contract expires in December 2024 but it has been suggested he could walk away from the role following England’s World Cup elimination in Qatar.

But National Daily learnt that the FA’s chief executive, Mark Bullingham has now confirmed the manager’s decision to remain at the helm for at least one more major tournament.

‘We are delighted to confirm that Gareth Southgate is continuing as England manager and will lead our Euro 2024 campaign,’ Bullingham said

‘Gareth and [assistant] Steve Holland have always had our full support and our planning for the Euros starts now.’

Southgate was named Three Lions boss in 2016, leading them to the World Cup semi-finals in 2018 in Russia and the Euros final in 2021 where they lost to Italy on penalties.

England’s 2022 campaign in Qatar ended at the quarter-final stage, falling to a narrow defeat against defending champions France who take on Argentina in the final of the competition on Sunday.

Southgate revealed that he was considering his position as manager afterwards as he felt there was too much negativity surrounding him and he was not sure he had the ‘energy’ to continue.

Speaking after England’s defeat to France, Southgate said of his future: ‘I don’t want to be four, five months down the line thinking I’ve made the wrong call. It’s too important for everybody to get that wrong.’

He continued: ‘I’ve found large parts of the last 18 months difficult.

‘For everything that I’ve loved about the last few weeks, I still have how things have been for 18 months – what’s been said and what’s been written, the night at Wolves.

‘There are lots of things in my head that are really conflicted at the moment, so what I want to make sure, if it’s the right thing to stay, is that I’ve definitely got the energy to do that.’
