A series of demonstrations were scheduled to be held in Germany on Tuesday to call on
the government to act quickly to help people fleeing the Taliban in Afghanistan.
A spokesperson for the Seebruecke (Sea-Bridge) Initiative said it would be holding a protest in front of the Reichstag building in Berlin on Tuesday afternoon with 500 participants expected to take part.
Demonstrations were also planned in Potsdam, Cologne and Bochum.
A number of smaller rallies were held on Monday.
Seebruecke, an initiative that campaigns for migrant rescue operations at sea and the permanent admission of refugees, was calling on the German government to “immediately evacuate as many people as possible from Afghanistan evacuation must not be reserved for a few.’’
Local staff, partners of the Federal Government, women’s rights activists and journalists must also be rescued, the campaigners said.
