Ghana Footballer Dominic Frimpong Killed in Armed Robbery Attack on Team Bus

A Ghana Premier League player, Dominic Frimpong, has died after armed robbers attacked his team while returning from an away match.

According to the Ghana Football Association, the incident occurred on Sunday night, leaving the football community in shock.

His club, Berekum Chelsea FC, confirmed in a statement that masked gunmen opened fire on the team bus, forcing players and officials to flee into nearby bushes for safety.

Police reports indicate the attack happened around 10:30 p.m. local time along the Ahyiresu–Kwame Dwumor Sreso road in the Nyinahin District of the Ashanti Region.

Frimpong sustained gunshot wounds during the нападение and later died in hospital while receiving treatment. Authorities also confirmed that another victim, identified as George Owusu Afriyie, was robbed during the incident.

The GFA described the young forward’s death as a “tragic loss,” noting that his talent and dedication reflected the spirit of Ghanaian football.

Frimpong, 20, had recently joined Berekum Chelsea on loan from Aduana Stars FC. He made 13 appearances for the club and scored two goals this season.

The incident has raised fresh concerns over the safety of teams traveling for domestic league matches in Ghana.
