There is finally good time at Stamford Bridge as club’s skipper Cesar Azpilicueta who would have been out of contract at Chelsea at the end of the season has extended his stay until the summer of 2023.
National Daily recalls that the west London club have been sanctioned from any transfer dealings after the embattled owner Roman Abramovich was punished by the UK government.
Luckily for Chelsea, the 32-year-old Spain defender had reached the minimum number of games needed to trigger an automatic one-year extension earlier this month.
The Blues skipper\s deal was due to expire on June 30 and he is just one of four Chelsea players in this situation along with Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and Charly Musonda National Daily can confirm.
It is believed that Barcelona have entertained an interest in the 32-year-old Azpilicueta and team-mate Christensen.
Meanwhile, reports in Spain claim Christensen has verbally agreed to join Barcelona – but Sky Sports News understands Christensen has not informed Chelsea if this is the case.
With Azpilicueta now requiring a transfer fee to sign him, there is a belief that Barca may lose their interest on the defender.
