Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State, on an inspection visit to the Challawa Water Treatment Plant in Kano, the state capital, declared a state of emergency on water supply in the state, ordering urgent end to scarcity of water.
The governor issued one week ultimatum to the management of Kano State Water Board to submit their demands to aid their operations in eliminating the persistent water crisis in Kano.
Governor Yusuf had in a media interaction declared the determination of his administration to end the water scarcity plaguing the state. According to the Governor, “We have declared a state of emergency to tackle the problem of water shortage across the state.
“It is imperative that we bring an end to this lingering issue and ensure our citizens have access to clean and adequate water supply.”
The governor said he was disappointed by deteriorating condition of the facilities the Challawa Water Treatment Plant.
The Director of Production at Challawa Water Treatment Plant, Sakabu Lawal, had disclosed that “Currently, only two out of the six water pumping machines are functional.”
Governor Yusuf also made official visit to other government institutions in Kano, which include, the School of Health Technology in Madobi, Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Kano State Drugs and Consumables Supply Agency, the uncompleted Wuju-wuju road, and Dandolo cemetery.
