The Anambra State Civil Society Network (ACSONET) has expressed concern over the rising wave of insecurity and killing of security operatives in the state.
Mr Chris Azor, the Chairman of ACSONET – a platform for non-state actors in security matters – made the remark on Thursday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Onitsha.
Azor regretted that Anambra and other states in the South-East had recorded a series of fatal attacks on security personnel within the past few days.
“Police officers, the military and paramilitary operatives were not spared in the curious dastardly acts.
“This is absolutely unacceptable and condemnable.
“We, therefore, urge patriotic citizens, the youth and civil society groups to rise to the challenge.
“Let us protect our communities from the attacks by haters of peaceful coexistence and development in the country,” he said.
Azor said the state could not afford another uprising and appealed to Gov. Willie Obiano to deploy tact to bring the situation under control.
“We have full and unwavering confidence in the ability of the governor to bring the situation under control in the shortest possible time,” he further said.
Azor said it was time to rekindle in the people, the culture and spirit of “Igwebuike’ (there is strength in number) and “Onye aghana nwanne ya” (to be ones brother’s keeper) in order to achieve result.
