Gunmen have killed the President-General of Ogidi community in Anambra State, Ikwuka Okoye, along with one other person in what authorities believe was a targeted revenge cult attack.

The deadly incident occurred in Ogidi, a prominent community in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, sending shockwaves through the region and raising fresh concerns about cultism and insecurity in the southeast.

Okoye, who served as the traditional leader and chief administrator of the Ogidi community, was reportedly attacked by armed assailants who opened fire on him and his companion. Both victims died at the scene from gunshot wounds.

Security sources indicated that preliminary investigations suggest the killing may be linked to cult-related violence, possibly a revenge attack stemming from ongoing rivalries between criminal groups operating in the area. However, authorities have not ruled out other possible motives as the investigation continues.

The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the incident and said officers have been deployed to the area to maintain order and pursue the perpetrators. A manhunt for the gunmen is currently underway.

Community members have expressed shock and grief over the loss of their leader, describing Okoye as a dedicated administrator who worked tirelessly for the development and unity of Ogidi. Local residents are calling on security agencies to intensify efforts to combat cult activities and bring the killers to justice.

The killing adds to growing concerns about security challenges in Anambra State, where communities have experienced periodic violence from cult groups, armed gangs, and other criminal elements in recent years.

State government officials are yet to issue an official statement on the incident, but residents are demanding increased security presence and decisive action against criminal networks operating in the region.
