Gunmen kill police officer during attack on NDLEA Headquarters

Gunmen during an invasion of the Headquarters of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Ebonyi State, killed one police officer.

The Public Relations Officer of the Ebonyi State Police Command, Loveth Odah, acknowledging the killing of the police officer, disclosed that two of the gunmen were also killed in the exchange of gunfire at the NDLEA headquarters in the state.

The PPRO had narrated that the Ebonyi Police Commissioner, Aliyu Garba, received a distress call from the NDLEA Commandant in the south-east at about 2.30 am on Tuesday, relating the attack by gunmen.

The gunmen, she said, had driven into the NDLEA headquarters in a Toyota 4Runner Jeep, shooting sporadically.

According to the PPRO, CP Garba, immediately deployed a combined team of a mobile police force and military personnel to the area and promptly repelled the attack.

The PPRO further said that some gunmen escaped with bullet injuries, noting that the Police recovered two rifles (AK-49 and K2) with 140 K2 live ammunition, 30 AK-47 live ammunition, and 36 GPMP from the crime scene.

The PPRO disclosed that other items recovered were 65 Barreta Pistol live ammunition, one Toyota 4Runner Jeep, some chairs, and other incriminating items.

She disclosed that the security operatives are on manhunt of the fleeing gunmen.
