Unidentified gunmen have launched a deadly attack on Okporojo community in Oso Edda, Edda Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, leaving several people dead and others abducted.
According to local sources, the assailants stormed the community in a coordinated ambush, moving from house to house while setting buildings ablaze and shooting residents who attempted to flee.
In the process, a number of villagers were reportedly killed, while an unspecified number were forcefully taken away by the attackers.
Community sources further alleged that five victims were killed and decapitated during the attack, with the assailants fleeing the area with the victims’ remains. The exact motive behind the assault remains unclear as of the time of reporting.

A video that has since gone viral on social media shows multiple houses engulfed in flames, with distraught residents heard calling on the Ebonyi State Government and security agencies to urgently intervene and restore calm to the area.
The attack has heightened fear and tension among residents of neighbouring communities, many of whom are reportedly fleeing their homes over concerns of possible further violence.
As of the time this report was filed, neither the Ebonyi State Police Command nor the state government had issued an official statement on the incident, and it remains unclear whether security operatives have been deployed to the affected community.
