Hon. Alex Ikwechegh, the House of Representatives member representing the Aba South/North Federal Constituency, has publicly apologized for his recent behavior towards a Bolt driver, following an incident that has drawn widespread condemnation.

A video surfaced on social media showing Ikwechegh physically assaulting the driver, who had come to deliver a parcel to him.

In the footage, the lawmaker can be heard using derogatory language and making threatening statements, including, “Do you know who I am?” and “I can make you disappear in Nigeria.”

The video quickly sparked outrage online, prompting calls for accountability from the public and political figures alike. In light of the backlash, Ikwechegh took to social media to express his remorse.

“I am deeply sorry for my actions and acknowledge that they were unacceptable and unbecoming of a public official,” he stated in his apology.

“I recognize the trust placed in me by my constituents and the Nigerian people, and my behavior fell short of the standards expected of me.”

Ikwechegh also assured the public of his full cooperation with the Nigerian Police, who are investigating the incident.

He expressed appreciation for the swift condemnation of his actions from his political party and the police, highlighting a collective commitment to uphold the law.

In his statement, he committed to seeking professional counseling to address the underlying issues that led to the incident and announced plans to engage in community service initiatives focused on promoting respect and understanding.

“I call on all Nigerians to join me in fostering a culture of respect, tolerance, and understanding,” he added.

“Together, we can build a society where everyone is treated with dignity and respect.”
