At 78, Moshood Habibu has the strength of a reckless 17-year-old.

Combining that with the feeling of being cheated, he comes across as a brute.

Which was why he bore down hard on his elder brother Salisu Surakatu, 16 year older.

He made short work of the whole thing when he slashed Surakatu repeatedly with a cutlass until he died.

According to the police, it happened on Nov. 24, at Kara Ewumi, Mowe, at Surakatu’s where Habibu went to protest against his brother over sale of land.

Habibu could have got away with the murder.

It was Tajudeen, who the Ogun state polce command, Mowe division, claimed is Surakatu’s son.

“On interrogation, the suspect claimed that the deceased sold a plot from their family land and didn’t give him his own share of the proceeds, and that he went there that morning to demand for his own share which led to hot argument between them,” a statement by PPRO Abimbola Oyeyemi said on Nov. 27.

Habibu knew his brother was never aware he came armed with a cutlass. Surakatu wasn’t just old, but also blind.

In such fit of anger, Habibu bestrode the 94-year-old, and hacked him to death on the spot, with the victim taking the blow with no idea of where and how to run.

The state CP Lanre Bankole has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the homicide section of the state criminal investigation and prosecution.
