The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has given reasons why it appointed Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El Rufai as its patron.
According to NIPR President Mukhtar Sirajo, El-Rufai has provided social amenities for Kaduna.
Public relations is a profession that caters to settling crises and maintaining cordial relations between different publics.
Kaduna has been roiled with insecurity, hostilities, and civil servie and labour unrest, and the federal government has intervened so far is some of the crises.
Sirajo, whose message was delivered by the National Vice President of NIPR, Adewale Adeniyi, said El-Rufai made patron was because of his successes in redirecting Kaduna state to the path of growth and development.
The NIPR president listed some of the governor’s interventions in the areas of infrastructure, education, civil service reform and ongoing massive urban renewal projects, as reasons for the recognition.
According to him, El-Rufai has left indelible footprints in these areas: increased budgetary allocations; killing ghost workers; building secondary schools and employing more teachers.
‘’The El-Rufai led administration has also recorded tremendous increase in the state’s Internally Generated Revenue.
“The state government was able to increase the states IGR by blocking leakages and ensuring that taxpayers pay directly to the bank,’’ he added.
‘’The water project was started in 2008, but successive governments had shown less commitment towards completion of the project.’’
All these were arrived at, according to NIPR, by independent assessment.
Patrons are usually non-professionals appointed for the benefit of the appointing bodies.
