There is a popular African proverb that says a man should always be cautious of what he says today, for it might come back to haunt him tomorrow.

This proverb best describes what former aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, is currently going through at the hands of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to reports, the APC has booted FFK out of its recently constituted national convention organizing committee.

You may recall that sequel to Fani-Kayode’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress, the ruling party decided to reward the move by appointing the former aviation minister as the Deputy Chairman of the Publicity Committee ahead of its national convention scheduled to hold on March 26.

He was to work in conjunction with Lagos governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who was appointed a publicity chairman.

FFK’s appointment was seen by political observers in the country as proof that he has been accepted by APC power brokers who initially frowned at the warm reception he received from President Muhammadu Buhari at the Aso Rock Villa shortly after his defection in 2021.

In an ironic twist to the plot, however, it appears that the former minister’s past sins have not truly been forgiven by the party after all as he has now been stripped of the position he was earlier given.

Why was FFK thrown out of the APC’s organizing committee?

It is believed that some bigwigs in the APC seized the opportunity occasioned by the party’s decision to reshuffle positions in the upcoming convention’s organizing committee to kick against the former aviation minister’s appointment as Deputy Publicity Chairman.

The APC chieftains argued that FFK’s scathing criticism of the ruling party, while he was a member of the PDP, cannot be overlooked simply because he defected to the APC.

His supposed role has now been given to Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola.

You may recall that Fani-Kayode was a staunch critic of the APC while he was a card-carrying member of the Peoples Democratic Party.

On one occasion, the former minister described the APC as a party “full of darkness”, vowing that he would rather die than join them.

In the wake of the farmers/herders crisis in the Southwest in early 2021, FFK had accused the President Muhammadu Buhari regime of exhibiting nepotistic tendencies by turning a blind eye to the killing of farmers by suspected Fulani herders in the region back then.

Judging from his recent removal from the APC’s national convention organizing committee, it might take more than just a defection for FFK’s past sins to be forgiven.
