How joint Police, Army team trapped gunmen attacking Jos Custodial Centre to regain control

The rapid response of security operatives to the attack of the Correctional Centre in Jos, Plateau State, by gunmen on Sunday resulted in the trapping of the gunmen in the Centre’s premises. The joint team of the Police and the Army attached to Operation Safe Haven, had arrived at the scene before the gunmen could escape and engaged them in a fierce gun battle.

While the exchange of gunfire at about 8.00pm continued, the gunmen were trapped in the premises of the Custodial Centre, which is located near the Department of State Service (DSS) state command in the heart of Jos, including the Headquarters of the State Command of the Nigeria Police.

There was heavy gunfire at the centre at about 5.40pm when the gunmen struck on Sunday.

The figures of casualties could not be confirmed yet at the time of his report, however, the joint task force at last took control of the facility.
