Last Tuesday, at 6 am, Ambazonian militia stormed Manga, a Taraba border community with Cameroon, and raided the village, starting from the palace, where they killed a traditional ruler.
Abubakar Manga, the spokesman for the community, said 13 people, including children were killed all together.
The body count could have been higher had men of the Nigerian Immigration Service not intervened.
Not much of the intervention made the headline though.
The embattled community however could not forget in a hurry.
Manga said the Cameroonian militia first cross a river, sacked the first building, then the Immigration officers around the area fired back, and the attackers withdrew immediately.
He told committee the state set up during their Saturday visit the immigration officials rescued some people that fell into the river in the stampede.
The community wondered how they got into that sorry state—that militiamen from Cameroon cross easily to unleash mayhem on the Taraba village.
Manga blame the villagers
“They are our kinsmen; we speak the same language. So when they ran to us we had no option than to give them refuge and that is our only offence,” he said.
Chief of Kashibila, Mallam Zakari Musa, also recalled that during the late military President Sani Abacha era, border communities in Taraba were fully manned by the military—unlike now.
Gov. Darius Ishaku and other lawmakers have raised concern about the invasion, calling on President Muhammadu Buhari take action in goo d time.
