The motion for the release of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, suffered setback in the Nigerian House of Representatives as the sponsor of the motion, by Eze Nwachukwu from Ebonyi, sought amendment to the motion.
Rt. Hon Tajudeen Abbas, Speaker, House of Reps
The sponsor of the motion, Eze Nwachukwu from Ebonyi, in collaboration with another House member, Ginger Onwusibe, had proposed amendment to the motion when members of the House suspended deliberation on the matter.
Those promoting the motion argued that the release of Nnamdi Kanu would ease the violence and killings in the southeast.
The Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu, had supported the amendment, but when put to a voice vote, there was no clear massive support, making the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon Tajudeen Abbas, suspend the amendment for further consultation.
