The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has praised traders in Onitsha Main Market and Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, for bringing an end to the long-standing Monday sit-at-home protests.
The group said ending such disruptions across the South East is crucial for reviving economic activity and restoring normalcy in the region.
In a statement, HURIWA noted that the sit-at-home orders had negatively affected commerce, livelihoods, and the broader economy, adding that the cooperation between traders and the state government demonstrates how dialogue and practical measures can overcome prolonged social disruptions.

Separately, the rights group called on the Defence Headquarters to provide clear and verifiable information regarding the status of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) commander Ifeanyi Eze Okorienta, popularly known as ‘Gentle de Yahoo.’
HURIWA highlighted conflicting reports surrounding his capture in 2025 and recent videos suggesting he is still at large.
HURIWA stressed that transparency on the matter is essential to maintain public confidence in government efforts to tackle insecurity and terrorism, and to ensure citizens are accurately informed about ongoing security operations in the South East.
