Following confirmed cases of some security personnel of financial and multinational companies popularly referred to as “Spy Police,” who use Police uniforms for illegal acts, the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase has stopped spy police from wearing police uniform from January 1, 2016.
In its place, a newly designed grey and black trouser uniform has been approved to be worn by Spy police nationwide.
According to IGP Arase, all Companies using Supernumerary Police (SPY) nationwide is expected to adhere to the new order strictly.
The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olabisi Kolawole said in Abuja on Thursday that the decision was taken after the IGP met with Security Managers of Companies using SPY Police for their internal security.
Arase said, “This measure is part of my administration’s renewed crime fighting strategy, aimed at curtailing the activities of criminally minded persons who disguise in police uniform to perpetuate their nefarious activities.”
