Ikoyi club hosts International community in golf showdown

Ikoyi Club 1938, Golf Section, is set to host its Nigeria vs International Community Match Play on Saturday, May 25 celebrating the enduring values of golf among Nigeria and the International Community of golfers.

The Match Play promises to showcase skills and sportsmanship, attracting golf enthusiasts from diverse nationalities.

Speaking during the press conference on Monday, the Captain of Ikoyi Club Golf Section, Tade Adekunle, expressed the club’s commitment to fostering an inclusive environment for all golf players and enthusiasts.

“At Ikoyi Club Golf Section, we believe that golf should be accessible to all, regardless of nationalities. The Match Play is a testament to our dedication to fostering collaboration and bonding bringing seasoned golfers and members to come together in the spirit of friendly competition,” Adekunle said.

“In addition to the Nigeria vs International Community, we have a diverse calendar of events planned – for instance, we have Memorial Cup, Club Championship, and Captains Day Tournament.
These activities aim to enhance the golfing experience for our members and strengthen the sense of community within our club.”

Captain of the International Community, Mark Walsh, echoed the sentiments of the Golf Section Captain on the impact of golf in building collaboration and cross-cultural engagement.

Similarly, the Captain of the Nigerian side Ademola Abidogun added, “The game offers opportunities for networking and to deepen the relationship between Nigeria and international communities.”

Abidogun also boasted ahead of the golf clash on Saturday saying, “We will use the battalion strategy. We’re going to battle them hard and we’ll be more tactical.”

Ikoyi Club Golf Section has remained a preferred choice for golfers in Nigeria because of its renowned picturesque greenery, state-of-the-art facilities, and vibrant community of golf enthusiasts.

With a rich history spanning over eight decades, the club is committed to promoting the sport of golf while upholding the values of integrity, sportsmanship, and camaraderie.
