There is rising tension in the National Assembly over the threat on Wednesday to impeach President Muhammadu Buhari if after six weeks he fails to tackle the lingering insecurity in the country. The tension accelerated as the Minority Caucus of the National Assembly on Thursday holds closed door meeting in Abuja. The meeting is still being behind closed doors at the time of this report.
Some senators had on Wednesday raised concerns over the need to impeach the president for security failures. The lawmakers subsequently issued six weeks ultimatum to President Buhari to tackle the lingering insecurity in the country or face impeachment.
