The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leadership has strongly refuted claims of forming a political wing within the group, dismissing such assertions as attempts to destabilize their movement.
Both Mazi Chika Edoziem, Head of the Directorate of States (DOS), and Uchechi Kanu, wife of the detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, have denounced a purported splinter group claiming to represent IPOB politically.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, Uchechi Kanu criticized those promoting the idea of an IPOB Political Wing (IPOB-PW), calling them “faceless buffoons.”
She reiterated that IPOB remains a united front and condemned the alleged splinter group’s actions as a sham aimed at creating disunity.
“Who are these faceless fools? What is and who are the people behind this sham called IPOB-PW? Be aware that IPOB-PW is a hoax and does not speak for #NnamdiKanu or #IPOB,” she wrote.
“#IPOB does not have any other branch. There is only one #IPOB all over the world – One Family.”
Echoing her stance, Mazi Chika Edoziem addressed a statement by a purported new faction claiming that Nnamdi Kanu had authorized it to engage in political negotiations with the Nigerian government regarding the future of the South-East region.

Edoziem unequivocally denied these claims and reaffirmed that IPOB has no political faction or wing.
In a statement shared on IPOB Central’s official X handle, Edoziem criticized those advocating for political participation, calling them “charlatans” and reaffirming IPOB’s non-alignment with Nigeria’s political system.
“The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has not formed and will not form a political wing to engage in the discredited Nigerian political system,” he stated.
“Those strutting around forming political wings and governments do not understand the essence of the Biafra freedom movement. A Sovereign Biafran Nation will never replicate the discredited Nigerian political system.”

Edoziem emphasized IPOB’s vision of an original political system for a sovereign Biafra, distinct from existing global political frameworks. He assured that this system would be revealed at the appropriate time, emphasizing the importance of strategic timing in IPOB’s actions.
“Our #OriginalBiafranpoliticalsystem will be unveiled at the appropriate time. For the DOS, timing is key to our actions, and this will remain so going forward,” he concluded.
The statements by Uchechi Kanu and Edoziem highlight IPOB’s commitment to unity amid what they described as attempts to destabilize their movement.
The group remains focused on its vision for Biafran sovereignty, rejecting any moves to fragment its ranks or engage in the Nigerian political structure.
This development underscores ongoing tensions within separatist movements in Nigeria, as factions and external pressures test their cohesion and long-term strategies.
