Iran names transitional leadership following death of Supreme leader Ali Khamenei

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian will lead the country, alongside two other top officials, during the transitional period following the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, state television reported on Sunday.

According to the report, the trio will include Judiciary Chief Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei and another senior member of Iran’s legal council.

The announcement cited Mohammad Mokhber, one of Khamenei’s advisers, as confirming the composition of the interim leadership.

Meanwhile, thousands of mourners gathered in the heart of Tehran, the Iranian capital, to pay tribute to the late supreme leader. AFP journalists reported that the crowd, dressed predominantly in black, chanted slogans including “death to America” and “death to Israel” in Enghelab (Revolution) Square.

Many attendees waved Iranian flags and held photographs of Khamenei, with some visibly weeping.

The transition marks a critical moment in Iran’s political landscape as the nation navigates leadership changes amid domestic and international scrutiny.
