Italy lead World Cup playoff team valuations at €839m as DR Congo stand out

Italy have emerged as the most valuable national team among countries competing in this month’s World Cup playoffs, with a total squad valuation of €839 million, according to the latest figures released by Transfermarkt.

The rankings highlight the financial strength of European sides dominating the playoff stage, with the Democratic Republic of the Congo the only non-European team to feature in the top 10 list.

Topping the chart is Italy at €839 million, underlining the depth of talent within the Azzurri squad.

They are followed by Turkey, valued at €453 million, while Sweden ranks third with €364 million.

Close behind Sweden is Denmark at €360 million. Ukraine completes the top five with a squad valuation of €267 million.

Further down the ranking, Poland is valued at €215 million, followed by Wales at €211 million and the Republic of Ireland at €184 million.

The Czech Republic placed ninth with €173 million, while DR Congo rounded off the top 10 with a valuation of €155 million, standing out as the sole African representative in the elite group.

The valuation figures reflect current market estimates of players based on age, performance, club pedigree and international experience.

Meanwhile, attention is already shifting toward the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be staged across North America. The tournament is scheduled to take place in the summer of 2026 and will be jointly hosted by Mexico, Canada and the United States.

The expanded tournament is expected to draw global attention as teams battle through the playoff rounds for a coveted place on football’s biggest stage.
